Tokyo Vice has been canceled by Max and will not be renewed for a third season.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, at a Produced By panel for Fox Studios in LA, the showrunners confirmed that it has been canceled after two seasons. The report further suggests that Tokyo Vice was originally intended to be just two seasons long. Besides, the show’s lead actor Ansel Elgort only signed a two-season contract.

Why Tokyo Vice was canceled after Season 2?

No official reason has been given for Tokyo Vice’s cancelation as of writing.

According to Screen Rant’s report, the makers have not yet given an official statement as to why they have decided to not renew Tokyo Vice. However, the show’s cancelation can be attributed to Max’s strategy to revise their TV show slate, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

The show’s creator J.T. Rogers and executive producer Alan Poul said in a statement, “We’re grateful not only to Max but to our partners Fifth Season, who sold the show around the world and made it a global success story. They were in the trenches with us always, guaranteeing that we could make the show we wanted to make. The response from both the press and from fans, in particular to season two, has been overwhelming.”

That said, Rogers and Poul did state that they do look forward to making a third season of Tokyo Vice in the future. Albeit, currently the show stands canceled after Season 2. “We know there is more story to tell. Of course, we’ll see what the future holds, but we are indeed grateful to have been able to share this story on Max until now,” they conveyed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tokyo Vice is immensely popular among the masses, with a score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. Starring Ansel Elgort, Ken Watanabe, and Rachel Keller, the show focuses on the life of a journalist working in Tokyo against a known crime boss.
