Yeon Sang-ho, who is best known for directing 2016’s Train to Busan, is making his first English-language horror movie.

Per Deadline, Yeon has been tapped to write and direct a new action-horror movie titled 35th Street for TriStar Pictures. The script is being written by Ryu Yong-jae, while Appian Way and WOW POINT are producing the film.

Plot details for 35th Street are being kept under wraps at this time.

What was Yeon Sang-ho’s Train to Busan about?

Train to Busan is a South Korean horror movie set during a zombie apocalypse that stars Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Kim Su-an, and Choi Woo-shik. The film wound up being a massive hit, bringing in approximately $98.5 million at the global box office off an estimated $8.5 million budget.

“Train to Busan is a harrowing zombie horror-thriller that follows a group of terrified passengers fighting their way through a countrywide viral outbreak, trapped on a suspicion-filled, blood-drenched bullet train ride to the Safe Zone…which may or may not still be there,” the synopsis for the movie reads.

Yeon wrote and directed an animated prequel to Train to Busan, titled Seoul Station, which was released in 2016. He also helmed the 2020 sequel, Peninsula, which starred Gang Dong-won and Lee Jung-hyun.

Additionally, Yeon has directed films such as 2011’s The King of Pigs, 2013’s The Fake, 2018’s Psychokinesis, and 2023’s Jung_E. He also helmed all six episodes of Netflix’s Hellbound (which was based on a webtoon of the same name created by Yeon) and the recently released Parasyte: The Grey series, which also premiered on Netflix.

No casting information for 35th Street is available at this time and a release date has not yet been announced by TriState Pictures.
