ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A local event showed how many New Mexican artists can turn trash into beauty while celebrating fathers in the process. The Father’s Day Recycle Art Festival was held at El Vado in Albuquerque on Sunday, where sustainable artwork was on display and available for purchase.
From plastic to throw-away metals, the artists featured at Sunday’s event transformed waste into masterpieces. “Metals that I have found and picked, scavenged I call it rescuing metals that people have kind of just got rid of and then I use a handheld plasma cutter. I’m an illustrator, so now I get to draw with fire, that’s my fun line, but yeah I get to use my imagination and everything you see is one of a kind,” said Darryl Willison, coordinator and artist.
