Trucker on 210 in Pasadena accused of shooting at motorist — who turned out to be a deputy

A trucker was arrested on suspicion of shooting at another driver on the 210 Freeway in Pasadena on Thursday night, June 6  — an off-duty sheriff’s deputy.

The deputy, who wasn’t injured, was in civilian clothes and driving his own car, California Highway Patrol Officer Miguel Luevano said.

Authorities don’t know yet what prompted the apparent road rage shortly after 9 p.m.

The deputy, in his white Infiniti sedan, noticed the Freightliner’s driver was aggressive with other motorists.

On the westbound 210 near Allen Avenue, the trucker began following the deputy, CHP Officer Marco Silva said in a statement. The trucker flashed his headlights at the deputy.

The deputy began to get off of the freeway at Lake Avenue and then heard a gunshot, Silva said. He pulled into a gas station, at Lake and Maple Street, inspected the back of his car and saw what looked like gunshot damage.

The deputy called 911.

CHP officers found the truck on the northbound 5 Freeway, south of the 14, and pulled the driver over. A handgun was found in the truck, authorities said.

Jaime Emanuel Aguilar, 28, of Delano was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, the CHP said. As of Friday, booking records show, Aguilar was being held in the Pasadena jail in lieu of $1.25 million bail.

The CHP asked anyone with information about the case to call Officer Silva at 626-296-8100.
