Jelly Roll is a huge name in the world of rap music given his chartbuster songs “Son of a Sinner” and “Need a Favor.” The makers of Tulsa King used his song “Get By” in the trailer for the second season to create hype for the series. The song’s lyrics and tone perfectly fit the scenario of Season 2. One of the lines from the song, ”If you’d seen all the hell I’ve seen, it’d make your stomach turn,” further matches Dwight’s back story.
Apart from the trailer, the creators surprised the viewers by giving a special appearance to the rapper in the show. Jelly Roll showed up in the second episode of Tulsa King Season 2 playing himself. He went on to interact with Dwight and his gang after stopping by the Even Higher Plane and Bodhi’s weed dispensary.
However, Dwight was unable to recognize the music sensation and even called him “Jellyfish.” Roll decided to play along by telling the mafia he is a janitor, leaving viewers in splits. Things get funnier when he uses the new recording booth installed in the dispensary. Further, he begins singing his popular single “I Am Not Okay” on camera. This makes for another hilarious moment as Dwight realizes that Jelly Roll is not a janitor. Additionally, the song reflects the problems faced by Dwight from his court case to the threats of Cal Thresher and Bill Bevilaqua.
