Twisters will storm into the U.S. theaters on July 19, and there is considerable interest among fans in finding out whether it will flop or succeed. It is a standalone sequel to Twister (1996). Lee Isaac Chung, known for Minari, directed the movie from a script by Mark L. Smith and the story by Joseph Kosinski. The film stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones in lead roles. Glen Powell’s Twisters is predicted to make somewhere between $40-55M on its opening domestic weekend.
The Hollywood Reporter mentioned the above numbers in their box-office forecast for Twisters. The lower end of the scale is from the estimation of Universal Pictures, the U.S. distributor of the film, while The National Research Group has suggested the higher end. According to Deadline, Twisters will earn $45-50 million in its opening weekend.
Additionally, The Quorom, a research firm, estimates that the film will make somewhere between $54-61 million. Box Office Pro’s long-range predictor is even more positive in its forecast: $65M–95M.
Twisters reportedly has a $200 million budget. Therefore, the film has to perform really well for multiple weeks both at domestic and international box offices to turn a profit.
Will Twisters (2024) flop or succeed?
If Twisters succeeds in meeting any of the predictions about its opening weekend numbers and remains one of the box-office top performers for several weeks, it will be a successful film.
The original movie had an $88–92 million budget and ended its box-office run with around $241 million in North America and $494.5 million worldwide, as per Box Office Mojo. Like its predecessor, Twisters is a classic big-budgeted film and should not have much problem finding its audience. However, how it performs eventually after its release remains to be seen.
