Two ABQ BioPark animals euthanized after health issues

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Zookeepers at the ABQ BioPark are mourning the deaths of two beloved animals. Cheza, an 11-year-old African Painted dog, was euthanized Friday night after a years-long battle with cancer. The BioPark says painted dogs are highly social animals so they will give extra attention to their other dog, J.P., until they can figure out the best path forward.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old Oceleot named Frisco was put down Sunday after a urinary obstruction led to irreversible kidney failure. He was a relatively recent addition to the BioPark for a breeding effort. The BioPark is waiting to see if those efforts were successful before he died. Both animals made it to their median life expectancy.
