Tyler Childers has unveiled a new single, “Song While You’re Away.” The country favorite’s latest release serves as his contribution to the impending movie soundtrack and subsequent theatrical drop, Twister, due next month on July 19 via Universal Pictures. The new number deliberately focuses on the convergence of the artist’s knack for lyrical assembly and instrumental splendor, harnessed to the Southern-tinged semblance akin to his Kentucky roots.

The forthcoming iteration of Twister is the stand-alone sequel to the 1996 thriller of the same name. Its 2024 soundtrack, due for release on the same day the movie hits theaters, features 29 tracks from a stacked list of lauded country acts, including Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Shania Twain, and others. Also featured as soundtrack contributors are Leon Bridges, who added “Chrome Cowgirl” and Charlie Crockett’s take on the country-western standard, “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky.”

“Song While You’re Away” was written by Childers, who also applied his acoustic strums to the made-for-movie tune. Adding to the composition’s dynamic nature, a cornerstone of Childers’ capacity as a musician, are fellow contributors CJ Cain (acoustic/electric guitar), James Barker (pedal steel guitar), Jesse Wells (electric guitar/mandolin), and Kory Caudill (Hammond  B3 organ/synthesizer), who assist in the big band feel that builds throughout the five-minute track.

The new number comes during a prolific touring period for Childers, who will spend much of the coming weeks on the road with support from S.G. Goodman and Wayne Graham before the emergence of August concerts with fellow featured Relix cover artist Allison Russell
