UFO car makes it to Roswell after getting national attention

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – Roswell’s UFO Festival is set for takeoff Friday, but one guest is getting national attention for how they’re getting there.

67-year-old Steve Anderson had the trip of a lifetime driving a UFO car from Indiana to the Festival in Roswell this week. The flying saucer car went through a rainstorm during the 18 hour trip. But also got stopped by police in two different states.

Law enforcement from Missouri, Oklahoma and even in Roswell all stopped by to take pictures of the car that Anderson made over a decade ago with a 1991 Geo Metro. “I’ve been doing this for 19 years and that’s the first occasion I’ve seen a vehicle like that traveling down the interstate,” said Sheriff Adam Carnal, with the Crawford county Missouri.

Anderson says he’s aware of the attention his car brings, saying it takes him up to an hour to fill up his gas tank since people always stop him to take pictures.

This latest trip to Roswell also led Anderson to get calls from the national and international press. “My slogan when I built that car, I said I’m going to bring smiles for miles,” said Anderson.

Anderson says there are three rules to get a ride in the UFO: Wear the alien glasses, have a ray gun for protection, and to always act like an 8-year-old.  “I said life is to short you got to have fun,” said Anderson.

Roswell’s UFO festival runs from July 5th to the 7th. Anderson says he will be in Roswell until Tuesday and then make the drive to Area 51.
