United wins third straight in front of league-high crowd

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico United protected the lab once again. In front of a 2024 league-high crowd of 12,147 fans, the black and yellow took down Orange Country SC 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Even through a scoreless first half, United controlled the pace of the match and had a fair number of chances created.

To start the second half, Avionne Flanagan sent a cross in the box that was deflected by an OC defender into the net for an own goal. Abdi Mohamed checked in a few minutes later and almost immediately scored off a set piece from Marco Micaletto.

“I challenged the group to find a way,” said coach Quill. “In front of a crowd like this, tying was not going to be an option for us. So, I challenged them to find the goals and they did it…. This is three shutouts in a row at home and we want to keep this place a fortress and have it tough to play here and I think we are doing that right now.”

With the win, United improved to 11-4-1 in league play. Up next is the quarterfinal round of the US Open Cup against LAFC on Wednesday.
