UNM names interim athletic director

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Following the departure of Eddie Nuñez from the UNM athletic department late last week, university president Garnett S. Stokes has named an interim athletic director. David Williams, currently serving as assistant vice president/deputy athletic director, has been given the new role, effective immediately.

“Dave Williams has demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership within our athletic department,” said Stokes. “His deep understanding of collegiate athletics and his strong commitment to our student-athletes’ success make him the ideal choice to guide UNM Athletics at this time. With Dave Williams leading UNM Athletics, I am convinced that our forward momentum will continue unabated as we embark on a national search for a permanent Director of Athletics.”

As interim athletic director, Williams’ contract includes an annual salary of $325,000 and continues until a permanent AD is hired. The timeline for a national search to fill the full-time role is being finalized and yet to be announced.
