Video: Man claims he’s a Texas officer during Eddy County traffic stop

EDDY COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – During a police stop in Eddy County, one man was sitting in the back seat of his friend’s vehicle. He soon learned not to lie to police officers, especially if they can easily find out you’re not telling the truth.

An Eddy County deputy arrests a man for drunk driving on May 13. One of his passengers asks the deputy how DWI arrests work in New Mexico, adding he works as a trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), but something felt off.

A state officer called dispatch to check it out, and there’s even confusion about his name. While waiting for an answer from Texas, the officer asks Michael Veloz some questions.

Dispatch gets back to the officer, and Texas DPS has never heard of Veloz.

The officer and Veloz go back and forth about whether or not he’s lying. Eventually, the officer had enough and arrested Veloz.

Veloz has pleaded not guilty to one count of impersonating an officer and is out on a cash bond.
