16-time GRAMMY Award-winning recording artist, bandleader, producer, and composer Jerry Douglas has exclusively premiered his new music video with Relix. “Something You Got” is the sophomore single off his highly anticipated LP, The Set, slated for release on September 20, 2024, via Nolivian Records. The latest take on Chris Kenner’s original, the cover finds Douglas returning to a tune he initially recorded on his 2012 Traveler LP with Eric Clapton.

As today’s choice deliverable, the song finds Douglas in the driver’s seat as he takes viewers into the realm of live performance, a pinnacle of his stardom, capturing the intimacy of the four-piece ensemble, which also features Daniel Kimbro (bass), Christian Sedelmyer (fiddle), and Mike Seal (guitar). For this iteration of the song, Douglas embraces a lighter, increasingly upbeat tone, which helps establish the strength of the album’s sonic focal point as pure acoustic splendor.

The Set serves as Dougas’ first LP drop in seven years. It presents 11 tracks, five original numbers in addition to six reinvigorated classics from his archive. The early fall release follows a prolific year for the artist, who was inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame ahead of the album turnover. The accolade follows Douglas’ prior pick-up of 30 International Bluegrass Music Association awards, a trio of CMA “Musician of the Year” titles, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association, and other credits that decorate his resume.

Piecing his history and connections to the material, Douglas told Relix, “I was introduced to ‘Something You Got’ by Russ Titelman and Eric Clapton. Eric had agreed to sing it on my Traveler record that also had ‘The Boxer’ with Mumford and Sons. I loved playing this song with the guys in my band, giving it more space without drums. It’s just a great old song by Chris Kenner that will stand the test of time, and this time, I sang it. Which might be a surprise to some.”

The music video leans into a simplified visual presentation focusing on the song itself rather than overwhelming the viewer with intensified graphics that boast the potential to detract from the full force of the group’s delivery. Complimentary acoustics propel Douglas’ voice to the foreground, in addition to his remarkable skills on the guitar–a feature that has earned him slots on an estimated 2,000 studio albums and tracks as a session musician.
