Police footage showed Albuquerque police responding to a northwest Albuquerque neighborhood on May 9 after a woman went up to an off-duty officer’s front door, claiming someone was following her.

Woman: “You know, somebody’s following us. Can you help us? I don’t know who it is. They’re parked up here in a white truck.”

Homeowner: “Say that again?”

Woman: “There’s a white truck following us.”

Home security footage showed the woman drive up to the home, and a white truck can be seen close by, even sticking around as she was trying to get help. Officers identified the driver as Matthias Alonzo, who told them he thought the woman needed help, and that’s why he was following the vehicle.

Officer: “What’s going on today?”

Matthias Alonzo: “Not much I just heard a scream; it seems like a woman was under direst and put into a vehicle.”

However, officers found a bottle of Fireball in his pocket, and after field sobriety tests, they put him under arrest.

According to police, Alonzo blew a .12 and failed multiple field sobriety tests. Officers also found meth on him.

Prosecutors went for pretrial detention which was denied. He was indicted for his sixth DWI and was supposed to be arraigned on Monday. It was moved to Friday after online court records showed he was arrested for nine violations of his conditions of release since May 31.
