Thalapathy Vijay, one of the most loved actors in Indian cinema, has had an elaborate career. Since his debut in the industry, the actor has played various roles. However, the ones where he plays an army personnel or a cop have a separate fanbase. One of his most beloved movies is the 2012 action thriller Thuppakki, aka Indian Soldier: Never On Holiday. Almost 12 years after its release, the movie is all set to hit the theaters again.
Written and directed by AR Murugadoss, Thuppakki was a blockbuster that minted millions on its opening day. Moreover, the movie opened to mostly positive reviews from critics. The audience enjoyed how the movie sent out a powerful message and yet was entertaining. Kajal Aggarwal played the leading lady opposite Vijay.
When will Vijay’s 2012 movie Thuppakki be rereleased?
Among several Tamil movies making their way back to the theaters, Vijay’s Thuppakki is the latest one. The film’s distributor, Shree Karpaga Vinayaga Film Circuits, has announced Thuppakki’s rerelease.
It will hit the theaters once again on June 21, 2024, in Tamil Nadu. The announcement read, “Very happy and proud to Re-Release the All-Time Blockbuster of @actorvijay @ARMurugadoss @MsKajalAggarwal #Thuppakki on the 21st of June in Tamil Nadu. Enjoy it in theaters near you.”
The movie’s official synopsis reads, “An army captain travels to Mumbai to see his family and seek a spouse. However, after witnessing an explosion in the city, he embarks on a mission to track down the sleeper cells and eliminate their terror group, which aims to destroy the city.”
Following the huge success of the Tamil movie, AR Murugadoss remade it in Hindi in 2014. The Hindi version was titled Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty, starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. Thuppakki was also dubbed in Hindi in 2015. As the movie is going to be back in the theaters, it would be interesting to watch how it would perform.
