Bob Dylan continued his stint on Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival late last week. After a month away from the stage [last performing on Aug. 10], the Greenwich Village bard resumed his touring role, taking part in a gig on Sept. 6, 2024, at Somerset Amphitheater in Somerset, Wis. To start his set, Dylan dusted off a greatest hit, as suggested by its placement on various anthology sets, playing “Silvio” for the first time since 2004.

After collecting dust since its last live appearance on March 16, 2004, Dylan busted out the Robert Hunter co-write, which initially turned up on his 1988 LP, Down in the Groove. Before being shelved for 20 years, “Silvio” emerged as a staple during the onset of Dylan’s Never Ending Tour, which subsequently aligned with the song’s late ‘80s debut.

The song’s setlist return also suggests the ongoing increase in Dylan-talk. In part, the song was included on former President Barack Obama’s 2024 Summer Playlist in August. And, the musician’s life is currently undergoing Hollywood treatment via the James Mangold-directed bio-drama A Complete Unknown, due in theaters on Dec. 25, 2024, further delineating potential connections which bare a similarity to the Aug. 6 bust out of “A Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall” on Aug. 6, which coincided with the aforementioned movie’s initial trailer release.
