At long last, Dawes return today with Oh Brother, the indie outfit’s first full-length studio album in two years. On their latest offering, the band–now comprised solely of the core duo of Griffin and Taylor Goldsmith–channel 15 years of esteemed musicianship into a nine-track reconceptualization of their identity as a group, and as artists, opening a bold new chapter with a heartfelt, shapeshifting blend of folk-rock, tender piano balladry and ripping, garage-inspired jams. After months of mounting anticipations with singles like “Still Strangers Sometimes” and “House Parties,” the band celebrates release day today with a brand-new music video for “Mr. Los Angeles,” prominently featuring Conan O’Brien.

The new video for “Mr. Los Angeles” fits the funny, sharp and introspective indie-rock standout to a scene of Taylor stepping into an empty warehouse to audition for Conan. As his silver-tongued ode to Golden State ennui plays out, the narrative descends into the downright bizarre, with plenty of antics, dancing and one hair-metal howl from the legendary comedian. “All you can really do is find out what are the most essential, truest, and idiosyncratic parts of yourself,” Taylor shares on the band’s deeply personal new album in a release-day statement. “And I like the fact that Griffin and I are kind of clinging to each other and holding on to each other more than we ever have. We’re grateful for each other in a new way. But we’ve also been through a lot. It feels like we’re reborn in a way, and I mean that with so, so much love and gratitude to everyone we’ve ever played with before! This is what it means to be a lifer, to have iterations. It means having phases and chapters, and this is a very clear delineation as to the beginning of a new one. So Oh Brother feels like a ninth record, but it also feels like a first record.”

Oh Brother is available on all streaming platforms now. Watch Dawes’ new music video for “Mr. Los Angeles” below.
