Sierra Ferrell continued her Shoot for the Moon tour on Sunday, August 18, during a stop at The Bridge in Santa Fe, N.M. After commencing the night with Trail of Flowers’ stand-out “I Could Drive You Crazy” and following up with a series of pulls off of Long Time Coming and Washington by the Sea, the songstress and her band arrived on a first-time cover, the Lowell George-written, Little Feat-popularized “Willin’.”

Ferrell’s adaptation of the trucker anthem started soft, with instrumental compliments from her bandmates Josh Rilko (mandolin), Geoff Sanders (upright bass), Oliver Bates Craven (acoustic guitar), and Matty Meyers (snare drums). Upon the first bellow of lyrics, “I’ve been warped by the rain, driven by the snow. I’m drunk and dirty, don’t you know,” it was clear Ferrell’s pipes were well-suited to delivery.

Select staged musicians leaned in during the chorus, specifically Ferrell (at center), Rilko, and Craven. They harmonized during the list of cities and allowed the leading lady to shine on the fan-favorite line: “And if you give me; weed, whites, and wine.” After last night’s cover was added to Ferrell’s repertoire, she became the latest artist to adopt the tune. Fellow samplers include Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne and Lucius, The Black Crowes, and others. Scroll down to watch a fan-shot video of Ferrell’s debut cover of “Willin’.”

“Willin’” cover starts at 19:50.
