Watch: The Dashboard Confessional Stage Emo Superjam at Bonnaroo, with Paramore, American Football, Jimmy Eat World and Blink-182 Covers

RMAG news

In its 20 years of top tier music celebrations, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has spawned myriad traditions that keep its fans coming back year after year. Among those most beloved events is the annual SuperJam, which congregates artists around a theme for an all-star deep-dive. On Saturday, June, 15, the festival welcomed fans to the Emo SuperJam, led by two-decade genre forerunners the Dashboard Confessional.

Subheaded “Once more with Feeling(s),” the Dashboard Confessional’s SuperJam was a thrilling rehearsal of emo fan favorites from the ‘90s and aughts, reliving the magic of the genre’s golden age. To complete the celebration, frontman Chris Carraba curated a stacked 12-act guest list, including Andrew McMahon of Something Corporate, Anthony Green of Saosin, Derek Sanders of Mayday Parade, Mike Kinsella of American Football, Tim Kasher of Cursive and Ian Grushka of New Found Glory. The performance also invited artists who showed out on other stages during Bonnaroo, with The Beaches, Medium Build, Trousdale, Maine’s John O’Callaghan and Covet’s certified ripper Yvette Young.

Together, the supergroup dug up some of the most memorable emo, pop-punk and post-hardcore hits of the turn of the century, with the packed This Tent’s audience screaming along to every word. Among the highlights from this tribute to the feelings-forward alternative offshoot were treatments of Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle,” Blink-182’s “I Miss You,” American Football’s “Never Meant,” Paramore’s “Misery Business” and the jaw-dropping full ensemble show closer of the Dashboard Confessional’s “Hands Down.” Watch some fan-recorded moments from the show below.
