Popular American actress Brooke Shields opened up about her early days in Hollywood in her bombshell 2023 Hulu documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields. The two-part mini-series followed Brooke’s life in the spotlight as a “sexualized child model.” She was cast in Pretty Baby at age 11 and appeared in nude scenes in the 1978 film. Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields showcased her journey from a young actress to embracing her voice and identity. Brooke also opened up about her marriage to the former world No. 1 tennis player, Andre Agassi.
Brooke was married to Andre from 1997 to 1999. In an interview with AARP The Magazine, the Mother of the Bride actress reflected on her short-lived marriage. Brooke said, “With Andre, it also felt good to feel smaller than another, because he was so famous and number 1 in the world.” She continued and shared that they were surrounded by bodyguards everywhere they went. Brooke called the past relationship “a real kind of respite,” as she could sit back and let the spotlight be on Andre instead.
Brooke also shared that being with Andre was a “transition” she needed. It helped her separate from her mother, who was her manager. Brooke continued to work on her acting and found herself a real agent.
Why did Brooke Shields and Andre Agassi divorce & did they ever reconnect?
Per Hello! Magazine, Brooke got candid about her failed marriage in her 2014 memoir, There Was a Little Girl. She wrote, “It hit me all of a sudden – I knew I had made a mistake.” While they were married, Brooke and Andre “saw very little of each other.” Brooke was working on her show, and the former tennis player was playing at several tournaments.
Brooke also found out about Andre’s addiction. She wrote, “He explained to me that for the first whole part of our relationship, he had been addicted to crystal meth.” As Brooke and Andre’s marriage was heading for the rocks, the latter didn’t want to attend couples counseling with her. Eventually, their marriage reached its end.
In the Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields documentary, she shared that the two “never reconnected” following their split. Brooke has been married to American film director Chris Henchy since 2001.
