What can New Mexico expect this winter, according to the 2024 Farmer’s Almanac?

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The Old Farmer’s Almanac has released its winter weather forecast for the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. So, what does it say this winter will look like in New Mexico?

According to the almanac, the upcoming winter will be calmer and gentler than in recent years. Across the board, the almanac predicts higher temperatures and lower snowfall than normal, making for an uneventful winter season. Exceptions include rainstorms in the south and snowfall in mountainous regions.

Predictions for the desert southwest region, including Arizona, New Mexico, and Las Vegas, vary slightly from the overall forecast with colder-than-normal temperatures. Aside from the month of January, which is predicted to be 3 degrees above average, November, December, February, and March are expected to be below average in temperature.

In terms of precipitation, above-average rainfall is expected in the southwest, with snowfall above normal in the areas that typically receive snow. The coldest and snowiest periods are predicted to be during mid-December and early February.
