Sports enthusiasts around the world were left in a state of shock after reports surfaced that renowned ice hockey player Johnny Gaudreau had passed away after getting injured in a major accident. Following this news, numerous fans of the Columbus Blue Jackets player took to various social media platforms to mourn the NHL star’s death. Here we have mentioned all the details regarding Johnny Gaudreau’s death and the tragic incident.

Johnny Gaudreau dead in bike accident, claims report

As per a report by AP News, Johnny Gaudreau died as the result of an accident that took place on Thursday in New Jersey while he and his brother were biking around the city.

The report suggests that Gaudreau and his brother were allegedly hit by a driver who is suspected to be intoxicated. As per the statement by New Jersey police officials, Gaudreau who was just 31 years old and his brother were in the city to attend the wedding of their sister.

According to Fox News, the accident reportedly took place around 8:30 p.m. in Oldmans Township. The outlet also states that after striking the duo who were on their bicycles, the driver was reportedly present at the scene.

The police also stated that the driver who hit Gaudreau and his brother is identified as Sean Higgins. In a press release, Sergeant Jeffrey Lebron said, “Through further investigation, Higgins was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.” Currently, Higgins has been arrested and is being kept at Salem County Correctional Facility.

The official page of the Columbus Blue Jackets made a post on Instagram that offered a heartfelt tribute to Johnny Gaudreau. The statement read, “The Columbus Blue Jackets are shocked and devastated by this unimaginable tragedy. Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but more significantly a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Meredith, his children, Noa and Johnny, his parents, their family and friends on the sudden loss of Johnny and Matthew.”
