The incident occurred in the third quarter while Herbert was attempting to escape the pocket. Unfortunately, the 2021 Pro Bowl nominee was tackled by the Panthers’ Jayden Peevy after being pulled by linebacker DJ Johnson. Herbert was later diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, which caused him to miss several training sessions.
Despite the injury, Herbert made a swift return to the Chargers’ lineup in their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he reaggravated the injury in the third quarter, further complicating his recovery.
When will Justin Herbert return to play in NFL?
At this time, it is unclear how long Justin Herbert will be sidelined due to his injury. However, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh recently provided an update, stating that Herbert is recovering steadily.
“Justin had X-rays, and they were negative,” Harbaugh told reporters, as reported by USA Today. “We did an MRI, and it showed he’s progressing.” Herbert himself mentioned that he’s feeling better, saying, “I threw around a little bit, did some 7-on-7 drills.”
Although Herbert is on the mend, predicting a specific return date remains difficult at this stage due to ongoing evaluations, rehabilitation, and his recovery progress updates.
