But the initial playful interaction suddenly took a turn when Covington held the submission maneuver for over 10 seconds before letting the rapper go. Colby Covington and Lil Pump participated in a mixed martial arts demonstration on the weekend. After the former UFC interim welterweight champion secured a rear-naked choke on the 24-year-old artist from behind, Lil Pump looked quite distressed. His teeth were visible, and it seemed that he couldn’t breathe. He tried to tap, but as he did so on his chest, Covington seemingly didn’t notice. When he tried to move Covington’s hands from his neck and throat, the latter only tightened his grip. It seems that Lil Pump tried to tap again, this time on Covington’s leg. However, the MMA fighter maintained his hold. Only when someone else there told him that Lil Pump was “out” or unconscious, ‘ Chaos’ relaxed the choke and moved away.
The incident happened while Lil Pump was streaming from his Kick account and garnered widespread attention. Many criticized Covington for his actions. It also resulted in a larger conversation on the responsibility skilled fighters such as Covington have for not displaying their abilities in less-than-ideal settings.
