NFL newbie Trevis Gipson has experienced a nomadic career so far, getting traded to different teams every other season. The linebacker was introduced to the league by the Chicago Bears in 2020 after signing a four-year rookie contract with the team. Since then, Gipson has turned out for the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars. If recent reports are to be believed, the 27-year-old professional will be playing for his fourth side in four years.
Trevis Gipson trade to Seattle Seahawks explained
The Seattle Seahawks have officially traded a 2025 sixth-round pick to Jacksonville in exchange for Trevis Gipson. The deal was confirmed on Monday, as reported by ESPN.
The deal was initiated after the Seahawks sustained a significant setback due to Uchenna Nwosu’s injury. The veteran linebacker suffered a heavy blow after clashing with the Cleveland Browns’ Wyatt Teller during his side’s latest preseason bout. Nwosu ultimately retreated to the injury tent before he was seen applying an ice pack to his knee.
Moreover, the Seahawks also bid adieu to Darrell Taylor after exchanging him for a 2025 sixth-round pick with the Bears. With a clear deficit of linebackers in their roster, Seattle have decided to trade in Trevis Gipson to cover for the position.
According to Jacksonville Jaguars manager Doug Pederson, Trevis Gipson’s trade to Seattle seems to be a beneficial one for all parties involved. He said, “When you have good players and other teams have needs, you’re obviously going to listen.”
Pearson further added, “Trevis has done an outstanding job for us, and I think it’s a good situation for him. It’s a good situation for the team he’s going to and the compensation for us. It’s a win-win. It gives him an opportunity to play, and we wish him nothing but the best.”
Gipson had only joined the Jaguars in March 2024, agreeing to a one-year, $1.3 million contract.
