Many people are wondering about Danielle Collins’ recent announcement and what it means for her tennis career. Her decision has sparked curiosity among fans, given her ongoing presence in major tournaments and her accomplishments on the court. This has led to questions about her future in the sport and the reasons behind her choice.

So, what’s next for Danielle Collins? If you’re curious about her recent announcement and its implications, here’s everything you need to know.

Is Danielle Collins retiring from Tennis?

Danielle Collins announced earlier this year that she plans to retire from professional tennis.

Danielle Collins’ US Open singles journey ended early with a first-round loss against Caroline Dolehide. The match concluded 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 in favor of Dolehide, who will next face Sara Errani in the second round. After the match, tournament director Stacey Allaster approached with flowers to celebrate Danielle’s retirement. However, Collins waved her off and left the court.

According to ABC News, she explained in the post-match conference, “I’m still in the doubles, and I had requested not to have any presentation on the court. I’m not somebody that likes to celebrate my accomplishments. I’ve struggled with feeling guilt, you know, around success, and that’s something I have had to work on.”

Her retirement announcement initially came after her second-round loss at the Australian Open in January 2024. According to ESPN, she confirmed her retirement at the post-match conference, saying, “This is going to be my last season, actually, competing. I don’t really know exactly when, but this will be my last season, and I’m really looking forward to that.”

Additionally, in an interview with ESPN before the French Open, Collins explained her decision to retire: “I want to go out really playing on a high level, and I want people to remember me for the tennis that I was playing. …This has been really empowering in the way that I’ve been able to make the decision to retire on my own terms and have the ability to choose.”

She is set to play her women’s doubles first-round match on August 28, partnering with Caroline Garcia against Anna Rogers and Alana Smith.
