Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently unveiled the highly anticipated Cybercab Robotaxi, and fans are wondering what exactly this new electric automobile is and what its features are. Elon Musk launches Tesla’s Cybercab
Tesla’s Cybercab Robotaxi is a fully autonomous electric vehicle without steering wheels or pedals like a regular car. Elon Musk used the Cybercab to arrive at the We Robot event, held on October 10 in Los Angeles.
The Cybercab’s physical appearance consists of a long and slightly curved lightbar that serves as headlights. It also has a small angular appearance, scissor-shaped doors, and a fully minimalistic interior. According to Musk, Cybercars using the latest software will no longer require human interaction. Moreover, the Cybercab robotaxi’s charging will be via wireless induction technology through mats and road tracks.
Tesla is expected to conduct unsupervised full self-driving (FSD) trials in Texas and California in 2025 using the Model 3 and Model Y test vehicles. According to Musk, more unsupervised FSD trials will only take place in areas permitted by regulators.
At the We, Robot event, attendees had the opportunity to ride in the Cybercab Robotaxi and the Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles.
How much does a Cybercab Robotaxi cost?
According to Elon Musk, the Cybercab Robotaxi is expected to cost less than $30,000. Musk also gave a timeframe of 2026-27 for the fully automated electric vehicle’s release.
However, the cost of the Robovan, a much larger autonomous electric vehicle also unveiled at the event, and its release date were not mentioned. Musk, however, mentioned key details about this vehicle—it can transport up to 20 passengers, carry large cargo, and be used for commercial or recreational purposes.
