The Platform 2 is set to debut in October 2024. It was previously chosen for a screening in the ‘Culinary Zinema’ segment at the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival. The filming for the movie took place at BEC in Barakaldo. This film acts as a sequel to The Platform (2019), which premiered on Netflix in March 2020. Following its release, the film gained immense popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Netflix announced that it had been viewed by 56 million houses in the first four weeks. While making it one of their most-watched original films.
However, talks of a sequel began shortly after the original’s success in 2020. In May 2023, Netflix announced that filming for the follow-up had commenced, with Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia returning as the director and featuring Hovik Keuchkerian and Milena Smit in leading roles.

The Platform 2, or El hoyo 2 as it’s known in Spain, is a satirical sci-fi drama film directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia. Being a sequel to The Platform (2019), it revisits the unsettling universe of The Platform, a towering prison known as the ‘Vertical Self-Management Center.’ It accommodates a range of offenders. Each of the numerous levels is shared by two inmates, while a descending platform provides meals according to a strict timetable.
This gripping story presents audiences to confront the unsettling shadows of human nature, challenging them to reflect on their moral boundaries. It’s all done by a mysterious leader who enforces his own brutal rules within this hierarchical structure. But this movie will showcase a newcomer Milena Smit as Perempuan and Hovik Keuchkerian as Zamiatin. As they find themselves struggling against a questionable system of food allocation.
The Platform 2 is set to premiere for streaming online at Netflix on Friday, October 4, 2024.
