Albuquerque

June 7 Zoo Music – Grupo Bella – This performance at the BioPark Zoo begins at 7:00 p.m. Animal habitats close at 8:00 p.m.

June 7 Pride Prefest at Balloon Fiesta Park – This free all-ages event is an opportunity to preview what Pride Fest has to offer with music, exhibitors, food, an open mic, outdoor art show, dancing, and educational events. Event runs from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

June 7-8 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.

June 8 Albuquerque Pride Parade – Starts promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Historic Route 66. Route begins at Central and Girard and heads east to San Mateo.

June 8 Albuquerque PrideFest – This event at Balloon Fiesta Park will have exhibitors, food, entertainment, a drag show, dancing, educational events, and a balloon glow. Event begins at 3:00 p.m.

June 8 Downtown Growers’ Market – The market happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Robinson Park.

June 8 Movies in the Park – Emperor’s New Groove – The movie begins at Tiguex Park at 8:15 p.m.

June 8 Swing Dance Night at the Albuquerque Museum – The Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra performs at this event from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Tickets range from $22 to $25.

June 8-9 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.

Albuquerque Notices

🔶 Registration open for Albuquerque Little Theatre summer camps – Albuquerque Little Theatre Education and Youth Program offers classes, workshops, and summer camps that cater to students of all ages. Kids can register for Disney’s Descendants musical camp, the play actors mini camp, the Play Builders summer camp, and more.

🔶 Beloved Albuquerque barbeque spot set to close its doors – Mr. Powdrell’s Barbeque House on Fourth Street will be open through its final day on Saturday, June 29, the restaurant announced on social media. The barbeque spot has been an Albuquerque staple since its opening in 1984. In the closure announcement, Mr. Powdrell’s Barbecue House cited the rising cost of supplies, utilities, and labor as the primary reason behind the closure.

🔶 Albuquerque Public Schools finalizes 2025 graduation schedule – APS said that most seniors will graduate the week of May 19. College & Career High School graduates will remain first in line for their diplomas. They will walk across the stage with their caps and gowns on May 2, more than two weeks before seniors at other APS high schools.

🔶 Free microchipping from Animal Welfare Department – Free microchipping and pet tags will be available for Albuquerque residents from June 1 through July 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Westside and Eastside shelters. No appointment is needed.

🔶 Bernalillo County offering free movie nights at local community centers – The free movie nights will include family-friendly films like 101 Dalmatians and Wonka. The movies will be shown on weekends starting at sundown. Gates open at 7:00 p.m., and moviegoers are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks.

🔶 Bernalillo County in need of fosters for tiny kittens – The kittens are too young to eat on their own, so they need bottle feeding every few hours. County staff will provide training and supplies for foster volunteers. The county says they’ve taken in 121 stray kittens in the last month.

🔶 Free summer lunch program returns in Bernalillo County – Beginning June 3, free lunch will be served daily to children at different locations around Bernalillo County. Children must be between the ages of 1 to 18 years old to receive a meal. Meals must be consumed at the meal site (except for non-congregate sites), all meals are first come, first served, and participants must receive the entire meal.

🔶 Explora hosting Mosaic of Marks, Words, and Material exhibition – The exhibition runs from May 15 – August 16. The exhibit will include an art studio where young visitors, their families, and educators can explore hands-on mark-making materials.

🔶 New Mexico State Fair holding auditions to sing the National Anthem – The live auditions will be at the Boxcar Stage from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the EXPO New Mexico on August 6. To audition live, you must sign up by August 5.

🔶 Registration open for Bernalillo County summer camps – The summer camps run from June 10 to July 26, and registration is now open at this link. The seven-week program costs $290. The summer programs run from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

🔶 Forest road near Cuba, New Mexico closed for elk calving – Spring brings the annual calving season for elk in New Mexico. To protect the animals, forest officials are closing Forest Road 69. The road reaches into the Santa Fe National Forest. It will be closed to all vehicles from May 15 to June 30.

🔶 Eleventh Judicial District in New Mexico has a new chief judge – Judge R. David Pederson is taking over as the chief judge of the Eleventh Judicial District Court. That court serves McKinley and San Juan Counties. Pederson, from Gallup, was elected by his peers to serve the district for a three-year term.

🔶 New Mexico and Arizona saw record number of Mexican wolf pups fostered – As the federal government works to reintroduce wolves to New Mexico and Arizona, they rely on placing foster animals into wild dens. Now, the U.S. Forest Service says they had a record number of foster wolf pups placed into dens this spring.

🔶 Free summer food service program for children resumes in New Mexico – The Early Childhood Education and Care Department in New Mexico has begun its free food service for children ages 1-18. The service aims to provide free meals to children during summer break. The department said more than 600 locations in the state are providing free meals through August.

🔶 Rail Runner offering free rides for students – Students ages 17 and under will be able to ride the Rail Runner Express for free starting June 1. The promotion will run through July 31.

🔶 Gila Wilderness, the nation’s first wilderness area, celebrates 100 years – On June 3, 1924, the U.S. government designated 755,000 acres as a “wilderness” area. It was the world’s first designated wilderness area, and now it is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The exact shape of the wilderness area has changed since then, with the administration of the land being split into several ranger districts.

🔶 New Mexico getting special Medicaid behavioral health help – New Mexico was selected as one of 10 states to get enhanced funding for behavioral health services. The funds support a four-year Medicaid program with new clinical offerings.

🔶 Santa Fe hosts ‘Summer Fire Truck Spray Down’ events for kids – The City of Santa Fe Community Engagement Department and Santa Fe Fire Department are providing a free way for kids to cool down this summer. The departments are hosting “Summer Fire Truck Spray Down” events at Swan Park.

🔶 Summer events in Cloudcroft, New Mexico – From art festivals to local beer, Cloudcroft is inviting visitors all summer. The 51st Annual May Fair Juried Art Fair will be May 25 – 26 at Zenith Park. The Cloudcroft BeerFest will be June 22 – 23. July 13 – 14 at Zenith Park is the Christmas in July Jamboree.

🔶 New Mexico legislature taking applications for internships – Applications are now open for undergraduate students and those who have recently graduated from college. Interns help with day-to-day staff work and are paid $17 per hour.
