The Platform 2 takes place about a year before the first part.
The Platform 2 is more of a prequel than a sequel to the original film, which released in 2019. The first movie seemingly ended with Goreng’s death and the young girl he fed becoming his messenger to the Administration. The message successfully led the other prisoners to rebel against the rules of the prison. Additionally, the stories of the jail’s messiah were being told which is likely none other than Goreng.
While the sequel is initially shown to be the continuation of Goreng’s revolution from Part 1, a shocking twist takes place. Trimagasi is shown to be alive which reveals that the second part is actually a prequel. As he is serving a one-year sentence, The Platform 2 is set one year prior to the first installment. In the first film, Trimagasi was killed by Goreng in self-defense after the former attempted to cannibalize him in the lower floor. Trimagasi’s existence reveals that the residents of Vertical Self-Management Center initially wanted to run a fair system. However, the prison’s harsh rules led to its destruction.
Additionally, the prequel showcases brief appearances of many original characters including Baharat, who helped Goreng send messages to the prison’s operators in the first film. There is Imoguiri, the interviewer who talks to Perempuan before she walks into The Hole. Further, Miharu, who rescued a non-existent daughter in Part 1, is seen escorting a child to the prison after winning a game against other kids. Finally, Part 1’s hero appears in the mid-credit scene of The Platform 2. It is revealed that he and Perempuan likely knew each other before and she has reunited with him after death.
