Despite Inside Out 2 bringing the summer box office back to its former glory, many wonder when it will be leaving movie theaters. Here’s all you need to know about how long Inside Out 2 is set to play on cinema screens.
When is Inside Out 2 leaving movie theaters?
Inside Out 2 is expected to play exclusively in theaters for 45-60 days after its release. After that, it could get its digital release and play simultaneously in cinemas. Overall, it will likely stick around in domestic theaters for 80-90 days, being a highly successful Disney/Pixar blockbuster already.
Per Deadline, Inside Out 2 had the second-biggest opening for an animated movie at the domestic box office. The film made $155 million in its first three days. Disney hasn’t given a conclusive date for Inside Out 2 to leave theaters. However, it is expected to stay in theaters for an extended period to maximize its theatrical intake.
For context, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire hit theaters on March 29. The movie played for 10 weeks until June 6. It had initially opened with $80 million domestically, playing in 3,861 theaters across North America. Gradually, the number of theaters screening it became less than half that number by its eighth week, and it only played in 442 cinemas in its final week.
Since Inside Out 2’s opening box office numbers were almost twice Godzilla x Kong’s, it is expected to do even more business. So, it will stay for a longer period of 11-12 weeks. This means it will be playing in theaters until the first or second week of September, if not longer.
However, if you plan to watch the film in theaters, then the best option would be to go before mid-August. This is because the number of theaters playing the movie after that will be greatly reduced.
Inside Out 2 features the voice talents of Amy Poehler as Joy, Lewis Black as Anger, and Tony Hale as Fear. The voices of other feelings include Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Maya Hawke as Anxiety, Liza Lapira as Disgust, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, and Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment.
