The Penguin has kept viewers hooked. Following the events of Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022), the drama series explores the life of Oswald “Oz” Cobb. While Oz continues to rise to power in the world of crime, viewers are curious about the appearance of the beloved hero Batman. So, where is Batman or Bruce Wayne in The Penguin?

Here is everything you need to know about the iconic DC character’s potential appearance in the series.

Where is Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, in The Penguin?

There are numerous theories of Bruce Wayne or Batman’s presence in The Penguin.

The Batman’s conclusion witnessed Riddler causing a flood in Gotham City. Further, the mafia boss Carmine Falcone’s murder turned things upside down. Additionally, the crime rate of the city went up by 42% within a couple of weeks as mentioned in The Penguin Episode 2. While the news reports confirmed Batman saving lives during the mayor-elect Bella Real attack, there were no further mentions of his whereabouts.

Although The Penguin creators have confirmed that Batman won’t be appearing in the series, theories are surfacing to explain his absence. It is possible that the Caped Crusader is healing from his wounds, which he sustained towards the end of The Batman. Additionally, he might be working towards the stability of Gotham with Commissioner Gordon or cleaning up the city after the floods. Another theory is that Batman might have been taken by the secretive Court of Owls ahead of The Batman Part 2.

Will Bruce Wayne or Batman cameo in The Penguin series?

Batman’s cameo in The Penguin is highly unlikely as the creators have already denied it. But, there’s a slim possibility that it might happen.

The makers of The Penguin mentioned Batman won’t appear in the series, so a cameo is unlikely to happen. However, there’s speculation that Robert Pattison might make a brief appearance at the end of the series to set up the events of The Batman Part 2.

Why Batman is not in The Penguin series

The Batman’s director and The Penguin’s executive producer Matt Reeves explained the reason behind the superhero not showing up in the series. He stated that the series uniquely shows the point of view of other characters as this development isn’t possible in the movies shown from Batman and Bruce’s vision. Furthermore, this is The Penguin’s show, so the focus is more on his character.

Similarly, showrunner Lauren LeFranc told Screen Rant that she found the idea of creating a Gotham-set show without Batman “liberating.” She even explained that their overall goal was to create an engaging show with Colin Farell’s Oz Cobb where viewers don’t miss Batman.

In addition to these factors, the reason behind Pattinson’s absence could be due to the potential increase in the show’s budget that his involvement might entail. Nevertheless, viewers can look forward to if and how The Penguin teases Batman’s presence amidst the Falcone and Maroni gang war.
