With a Harry Potter reboot series in the works, a recent rumor has led fans to believe that Toby Woolf will join the cast and step into the titular character’s shoes after Daniel Radcliffe. Along with him, several other names have been speculated to play familiar characters from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.

So, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Harry Potter reboot series and its cast.

Has Toby Woolf been cast to play Harry Potter in the reboot series?

No, Toby Woolf hasn’t been confirmed to portray Harry Potter in the reboot series as of writing.

In September 2024, the Chairman and CEO of HBO and MAX Content, Casey Bloys provided an update on the show’s pre-production and casting. He also confirmed a “late ’26-’27” release date window.

This was after Warner Bros. Television announced an opening casting call for the new Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Following these updates, a viral post on Facebook from September 29 named several actors who are potentially being eyed to join the show.

The post comes from a fan page called “RuPaul’s Drag Race Family,” and has thousands of likes and comments. It showcases a fan-made poster and states that Toby Woolf is being eyed as the next Harry Potter. However, the post is fan-made and not an official announcement. It doesn’t come from Warner Bros. or MAX and needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

Are Joshua Pickering and Bronte Carmichael playing Ron and Hermione in the Harry Potter show?

No, Joshua Pickering and Bronte Carmichael aren’t confirmed to play Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series.

This speculation once again begins with the aforementioned Facebook post, which states in its caption:

“The first look at HBO MAX’s Harry Potter has been revealed with a look at the franchise brand brand-new logo.

The Harry Potter series is set to be adapted into 7 Seasons for television with 10 episodes per season devoted to each of the books. Toby Woolf, Joshua Pickering, and Bronte Carmichael are rumored to be playing Harry, Ron and Hermione.”

The post continues to mention other actors as well:

“Lesley Manville has already signed on to play Minerva McGonagall, alongside Peter Capaldi as Albus Dumbledore, Kristian Nairn as Rubeus Hagrid, Angus Imrie as Professor Quirell, Edward Bluemel as Snape, and Lucy David as Aunt Petunia.

Lastly, it adds:

“Jamie Campbell Bower is said to be returning to the franchise, this time playing the Dark Lord Voldemort. Harry Potter Season 1 arrives Fall 2026.”

Though the names are neatly fan-cast and quite believable, none of them are confirmed for the upcoming series. Meanwhile, the official casting for the series is still in progress. HBO has also mentioned that interested candidates residing in the UK should submit their 30-second audition tapes by October 31, 2024. For now, the series is nowhere close to casting its young leads or other characters.
