Fans are eager to learn why Neal McDonough was fired from Scoundrels. Back in 2010, McDonough was originally set to star in ABC‘s Scoundrels, until his firing and replacement by David James Elliot, reportedly three days into the shoot.

So, here is everything we know about why Neal McDonough was fired from Scoundrels.

Why did Neal McDonough get fired from Scoundrels?

Neal McDonough was fired from Scoundrels because of his staunch refusal to act in intimate scenes that involved kissing and se*ual intercourse. McDonough’s firing from Scoundrels proved devastating for the actor professionally, who described it as “a horrible situation” in a 2019 interview with Closer Weekly. “After that, I couldn’t get a job because everybody thought I was this religious zealot,” The Tulsa King star said. “I am very religious. I put God and family first, and me second. That’s what I live by. It was hard for a few years.”

He concluded by mentioning how Graham Yost’s call for him to be a villain in Justified helped him get back to his acting profession. He further shared how when getting signed up for Desperate Housewives, he and creator Marc Cherry came to an understanding when discussing McDonough’s refusal to do intimate scenes on the show.

The actor had earlier spoken about his rule to not kiss or do intimate scenes with anyone in a speech during the 2019 conference on business and ethics for The Orange Catholic Foundation, where he reminded everyone that his lips were “made for one woman.”

In this speech, he also mentioned that losing his job in Scoundrels and getting blacklisted from acting work led to him losing several possessions like his lavish Los Angeles house, his Mercedes, and other belongings, which made him devastated.

McDonough currently stars in Paramount Plus’ Tulsa King Season 2, which is headlined by Sylvester Stallone. In the show, he plays Cal Thresher, a corrupt businessman and oil tycoon.
