Today, Wednesday, Oct. 2, Southern Strings Festival has made the difficult decision to postpone its impending event, which was scheduled for Oct. 3 and 4, 2024, moving the occasion to the following year, next fall, 2025, after Hurricane Helene made landfall near its South Carolina location. In the wake of the event’s decision to push, Widespread Panic’s JoJo Hermann and Sam Holt will perform a free show to garner relief for storm victims.
According to Widespread Panic’s official social post announcing the impending performance, Hermann and Holt will perform together on Saturday, October 5, at Electric Eats in Aiken, S.C. The show is slated to begin at 6 p.m. While tickets are free, attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable items or bestow monetary donations to benefit those folks in the Central Savannah River Area, which spans 13 counties in Georgia and South Carolina.
In addition to the benefit show, Widespread Panic took to its website to share a list of food banks taking donations after Hurricane Helene’s destructive effect: MANNA Food Bank (Asheville, N.C.), Golden Harvest Food Bank (Augusta, Ga.), Harvest Hope Food Bank (Columbia/ Greenville, S.C.), Second Harvest of the Big Bend (Tallahassee, Fla./ Panhandle), Second Harvest of South Georgia (Valdosta, Ga) and Second Harvest of East Tennessee.
Southern Strings Festival was initially slated to feature a co-bill from Hermann and the late Michael Houser’s guitar tech, Sam Holt. In light of Hurricane Helene, the pair intends to tap into a free night of music to raise funds for choice charities to assist in relief efforts.
Fellow intended acts at Southern Strings Festival, The Mason Jars, have signed on to participate in Saturday’s concert, as well as The Magnificent Jam Revival, known for covering Phish, Widespread Panic, Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Trey Anastasio Band, .moe, and more.
