Young Lady and Gentleman: Does it have a happy or a sad ending?

In the finale episode of Young Lady and Gentleman, all the unanswered questions were answered. Park Dan-Dan (Lee Se-Hee), who gets hired by Lee Young-Kook, has a complicated past. Even though she is quite competent in her work and has a bright personality, she keeps her charm to herself because of her troubled situation. Her real-life mother left her and her husband, Soo-Chul, to pursue her dreams in America. Soon after leaving them, she faced a massive accident, leading her to undergo reconstructive surgery.

In the meantime, Soo-Chul, not knowing what to do with his newborn baby (Dan-Dan), walks towards a water body with the little one in his arms. There, he meets his neighbor, Yeon-Sil, a recently widowed woman with a young son. She tries to talk him down and to save his life, she suggests he should marry her and raise the two kids together. Since then, Park Dan-Dan has started to live with a stepfamily. However, years later, Anna Kim (Dan-Dan’s real mother after the surgery) swoops her way back into their lives. Coincidentally, Anna and Young-Kook are old friends. Meanwhile, Young-Kook and Dan-Dan’s relationship blooms into a beautiful love story.

As Anna Kim is bonding with Dan-Dan and Soo-Chul, it is slowly revealed that she has cancer. She admits that she is Dan-Dan’s mother and asks Young-Kook to take care of her. Also, Yeon-Sil promises to stay by Dan-Dan’s side. On the other hand, after a lot of chaos and creating twisted situations for his daughter, Soo-Chul finally gives his blessing to Dan-Dan to have a future with Young-Kook. After having an on-and-off relationship with Young-Kook, when he finally proposes her marriage, she says yes, and they live happily ever after.

However, many viewers were not very happy with the ending. A lot of them have commented on Naver that they felt the drama was wrapped up in a hurry. There were many loopholes in the storyline, and the backgrounds of the characters were not well-written. Thus, the drama received a mixed reaction from the audience.
