Youth Encouragement Elk Licenses go on sale July 10

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – On July 10, youth hunters in New Mexico will be eligible to purchase an antlerless Youth Encouragement Elk License. The sale of the 1,960 licenses begins and 10 a.m. and licenses are sold on a first come first served basis.

To purchase a Youth Encouragement Elk License you must have a valid hunter education certification and must be 17-years-old or younger on the opening day of the hunt. For the first 14 days, the sale is only open to youth who have applied in the current license year for one or more hunts for deer, elk, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, Barbary sheep, oryx or ibex and were not successful for any hunt. After 14 days the licenses will be available to any youth hunter who is eligible to purchase an elk license.

Youth Encouragement Elk Licenses must be online through the departments online license system.
