Gusty winds expected as backdoor cold front moves through tonight

Hot temperatures covered the majority of New Mexico Sunday with the Northeast Highlands seeing rather mild temperatures. A few showers and severe storms have begun to develop through the late afternoon hours across the northeast and east-central parts of the state. We will see this continue as we head into the late evening hours.

Overnight, temperatures will be mild across the state, but winds will pick up from east to west as a backdoor cold front moves through into Monday morning. This will bring wind gusts up to 60 mph across the Albuquerque Metro and very gusty winds across eastern New Mexico.

As the backdoor cold front advances westward, more moisture will filter in behind it. This will increase shower and storm chances for eastern New Mexico as we head into the workweek. Advancing through the week, showers will make their way more westward as well.
