The Penguin Episode 2, titled “Inside Man,” aired on Sunday, September 29, and fans want to know how it ends and who dies. In this episode, Oswald “Oz” Cobb / The Penguin (Colin Farrell) races against time to establish that he is not the inside man for a rival mob family and seeks to pin the blame on a powerful underboss. However, things don’t turn out as planned, forcing him to improvise.

Here is everything that happens at the end of The Penguin Episode 2.

Who dies at the end of The Penguin Episode 2 and why?

In episode 2, Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti) realizes that someone within their family is helping the Maroni family after the latter accepts responsibility for Alberto’s murder. She even recruits a detective formerly on her father’s payroll to find out who this person is.

Initially, Oz wants to pin the traitor tag on Johnny Viti (Michael Kelly), an underboss working directly under the new don, Carmine Falcone’s brother Luca (Scott Cohen). When the aforementioned detective captures Ervad, a high-ranking member of the Maroni family, and brings him to Sofia for interrogation, she assigns Castillo, the only man she trusts in the organization, to find answers. By then, Oz has already decided to blame Viti with the hopes of replacing him as an underboss.

However, during Alberto’s funeral, Victor fails to plant some diamonds inside Viti’s car. These are the same diamonds that Alberto went to get the night Oz killed him. Forced to improvise, Oz kills Ervad, whom he initially intended to free, and then pins everything on Castillo. Luca shoots the latter dead, and the diamonds are eventually found in Castillo’s apartment.

Tasked to dispose of the bodies, a frustrated Oz makes Victor lie in the grave alongside the two dead men to make him understand the cost of failing to do his job. Although he later tells Victor to get out of the grave, it’s a lesson that the younger man is unlikely to forget anytime soon.

Why do Oz and Sofia team up in The Penguin Episode 2?

With Castillo dead, Sofia doesn’t have any allies left in the family formerly headed by her father. Throughout the episode, she makes it clear that she sees Oz for the ruthless and ambitious man that he is. But by the end, even she seems to be convinced that Castillo killed her brother.

After Luca makes it clear that he wants her to leave Gotham, Sofia decides to ally herself with Oz, the only man who has consistently reached out with the proposal to do so. Moreover, she feels deep resentment toward the rest of the family for her time at Arkham. Sofia wants Oz’s help to gain control of her family, while Oz wants access to Alberto’s shipment of a new drug. Ultimately, this alliance is nothing but a house of cards and will fall apart the moment Sofia discovers that Oz is her brother’s real killer.
