Advertising once again allowed on Albuquerque city buses

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Advertising will once again be allowed on Albuquerque city buses. City council passed rules last year prohibiting wraps on buses in order to give them a uniform appearance. The effort was spearheaded by former Councilor Isaac Benton who did not seek re-election to this year’s council.

Now, just eight months later, before some of the existing ads even expired, the new council has reversed course. On a 5-3 vote, they approved Councilor Dan Champine’s proposal to reinstate advertising on bus exteriors with certain restrictions. For instance, the bus windows cannot be covered. “It allows the wraps to come back on the motorcoaches, but on a level where advertising is secondary to the bus’s public image,” said Councilor Champine.

Revenue from the ads goes to the City of Albuquerque’s Transit Department.
