Albuquerque school director charged with threatening student turns himself in

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office says the charter school director accused of threatening a student with a box cutter has turned himself in. South Valley Academy Executive Director Richard Perea is facing aggravated assault and child abuse charges after a criminal complaint states he held the box cutter to the student’s neck on April 18.

Witnesses told investigators he made statements like “Boom, jugular vein” and “I’m gonna show you what a Chicano man does.”

Perea was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on Monday.
