On Friday night, Tedeschi Trucks Band took their Deuces Wild tour to Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Conn. The concert marked the onset of a two-night series, which would see the husband and wife duo return to the East Coast venue once again on Saturday evening, but only after welcoming a very special guest. Touching on their shared Allman Brothers Band roots, lauded backbeat and the only surviving member from the original lineup, Jaimoe, joined Derek Trucks, who was a late ‘90s arrival to the brazen Southern rock group, making for an Allman family reunion of sorts.

As if to mark the arrival of their special guests, a percussive segment started off the night, which ran over into a cover from Dr. John’s repertoire, “I Walked on Guilded Splinters.” The initial song also functioned as Jaimoe’s entry on stage, where he met with TTB’s full-time rhythm masters Isaac Eddy and Tyler Greenwell. Supporting the main act for another number, Jaimoe added his signature sound to another borrowed number, Blind Willie McTell’s “Statesboro Blues,” a feature of the Allman Brother’s live and recorded canon.

Jaimoe stepped back for a bit, providing TTB time to find their groove on ensuing covers and originals, including a pair of ABB-sourced numbers, the iconic “Mountain Jam” and “Come and Go Blues.” Continuing the trend, during the Gregg Allman-penned “Dreams,” Jaimoe returned to the stage to play on the number as a final offering. Before closing the night, Derek and Susan returned to the Allman archive one last time, reprising “Whipping Post” prior to Friday’s encore, which started on Bruce Springsteen’s “State Trooper,” and concluded after the arrival of one final guest.

Opener Margo Price joined her hosts to conjure memories of Joe Cocker, Mad Dogs & Englishmen by tapping into their version of “Let’s Go Get Stoned,” a move they had collectively pulled with August 21. The prior occurrence had also featured a rendition of The Coasters’ original and Leon Russell’s “Stranger in a Strange Place.” The latter was played as the final song during Saturday night’s follow-up at Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Conn., with Price reappearing to help her hosts close out Saturday’s concert.

After TTB’s two-night stand in Bridgeport, Conn., they will return to the stage tonight, Sunday, August 25, at the famed Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Tickets remain on sale www.tedeschitrucksband.com.
