Arrest made in fatal shooting of brothers found outside burning Highland Park home

A suspect is in custody for this week’s fatal shooting of two brothers whose bodies were found outside the burning Highland Park home of their recently deceased mother, Lake County authorities said Friday.

The spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, Christopher Covelli, said that someone has been arrested in the deaths of Marc Austwick, 63, of Lake Forest, and John Austwick, 60, of Mundelein.

The alleged offender’s identity had yet to be released Friday.

Firefighters responding to a house fire shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Park Avenue West found the bodies of the two men. Authorities said the brothers died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities initially said they believed the deaths were an isolated shooting, and that there was no danger to the general public.

According to public records, the house where the brothers were found was owned by their late mother, Phyllis Austwick, a lifelong area resident, died May 31 at the age of 84, according to an online obituary, and was survived by her five children.
