Aurora man charged with kidnapping after teen said she was grabbed while walking in the city

A man from Aurora has been charged with kidnapping after a teenage girl reported that she was grabbed while walking on Orchard Avenue in the city, officials said.

Daniel Raines, 19, was arrested on Wednesday at around 3:20 p.m. near North Avenue and River Street in Aurora, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department. Officials said Raines has been charged with felony kidnapping, attempted kidnapping and aggravated battery, in addition to misdemeanor battery.

On Wednesday, at around 2:15 p.m., a 17-year-old girl told police that she was walking on the sidewalk in the 700 block of Orchard Avenue when a man quickly grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth with his hand and dragged her away from the sidewalk, according to the release.

The teen said she managed to free herself from the man, who ran away, according to the release.

A description of the man was broadcast to Aurora police officers, and Raines was arrested, officials said.
