Borderlands 4 announced, will launch in 2025

2K Games announced Borderlands 4, the sequel to 2019’s Borderlands 3, will launch in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam, and Xbox Series X.

Developed by Gearbox Software, the game was introduced with an entirely cinematic trailer. There’s no dialogue, so you’re left to figure out for yourself what’s happening. Looks like we’re headed to an all-new dessicated treasure planet, one that teleports into a system and starts messing with the celestial bodies already there.

The Borderlands series dates to 2009 and includes three main entries, the spinoffs Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep (2013), Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (2022), and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (2014), as well as a line of narrative video games from Telltale and Gearbox published in 2014 and 2022.

Regrettably, it also includes a disaster of a cinematic adaptation that premiered Aug. 9, and appears well on its way to losing a lot of money for distributor Lionsgate and its producers, but not Gearbox, 2K Games, or their parent, Take-Two Interactive. Thus Borderlands 4 goes forward untrammeled by the film’s stinkeroo opening.
