Chopper the Rhino moving out of ABQ BioPark

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — The ABQ BioPark is saying farewell to one of its favorite animals.

Chopper, an 11-year-old white rhino, will be moving to a new, two-acre facility.

The BioPark did not say where he is headed, but his move comes after a recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Chopper came to the BioPark in 2012 as an orphan and has since grown up.

He’s known for getting excited when visitors shout his name, and he even made the park’s Christmas “Nice List” two years in a row.

The BioPark said its other rhino, 38-year-old Bertha, will be joined by another older female named Mashile. The zoo expects them to be an ideal pair.
