Climber rescued after falling down cliff at Sandia Crest trail

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — A person was rescued on Saturday, New Mexico officials confirmed. Crews were called out around 11 a.m.

Albuquerque Fire Department (AFR) said their Heavy Technical Rescue Team was called to the Sandia Crest Nature Trail for a rescue operation. It was reported that a climber fell down a cliff and had injuries.

The person was spotted and then teams made contact with them. The air medivac was requested, and by 1:05 p.m., the person was being flown to a local hospital.

No rescuers were injured, officials said.

Multiple agencies were called, such as AFR, Albuquerque Police Department, Bernalillo County Fire Department, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police, Albuquerque Mountain Rescue, Cibola Rescue, UNMH EMS, New Mexico State Search and Rescue, and the Army National Guard.
