Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre recently opened up about the worst moment of his WWE career. Back in 2022, McIntyre defeated Sheamus on an episode of WWE SmackDown to earn a championship opportunity against Roman Reigns. The match between Reigns and McIntyre took place in Cardiff, Wales. Fans in Wales heavily supported McIntyre, as he is also European.

However, just as the former WWE Champion landed his signature Claymore Kick on Roman Reigns, the referee was pulled out of the ring by the debuting Solo Sikoa. This was the moment when McIntyre was about to win the title. This distraction allowed Reigns to capitalize and retain his championship in front of McIntyre’s home fans. Following the match, heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury entered the ring and shook hands with Reigns. In a confusing turn of events, McIntyre, who had just suffered a crushing defeat, joined Fury in singing the “American Pie” song.

In an interview with The UK Metro, McIntyre recalled the moment, describing it as the worst moment of his life. He stated, “I was so happy getting Clash in Wales and getting the first stadium show since SummerSlam 92 and getting the main event, I wasn’t happy getting screwed and the worst moment of my life singing that stupid song afterwards. But I’m very happy that you preserved, you believed, you kept working and you might just get a redo and it’s not just a redo, it couldn’t be any more perfect.”

Drew McIntyre once again in high stakes match at WWE Clash at the Castle

Drew McIntyre, who fell short of winning the title in front of his home crowd back in 2022, has another shot at championship glory this weekend. WWE’s upcoming premium live event, Clash at the Castle, takes place this Saturday in Scotland. McIntyre will challenge Damian Priest for the WWE World Heavyweight Title.

In the same interview, McIntyre talked about how special it is for him to perform in Glasgow, Scotland. He stated, “It’s literally in Glasgow, where I went to Uni for four years. 30 minutes from here is where I grew up. We’ve gotta make it right this time because me, my family, the UK can’t take another shot through the heart like what happened last time. It will collapse the entire UK, so Drew McIntyre has to win and will win this time.”

Adding excitement to the upcoming championship bout, McIntyre secured a crucial victory over Finn Balor on Raw. This win ensures The Judgment Day, Damian Priest’s faction, will be barred from ringside during their match this weekend at Clash at the Castle.
