Riding a high from its 2023 inaugural staging, the Horseshoe Music Festival has officially announced its triumphant return, bringing a tight-knit jam community back to Jackson, Wyo.’s Virginian Lodge for a summer send-off. From August 30 to September 1, Duane Betts and his wife Lisa Hadley Betts will welcome fans to a jam-packed three-day program of top-tier music, art, gourmet food and beverages and wellness events, carefully curated for Mountain region music lovers and travelers alike. At the celebration’s core is the all-star Horseshoe Family Band–featuring members of The Meters, Phil Lesh & Friends, Palmetto Motel, Wolf Bros and more–who will deliver three expansive headline sets and aftershows through the course of the weekend.
Hand-selected by musical directors Betts and Eric Krasno, the Horseshoe Family Band features an all-star lineup of familiar faces to the jam scene. Returning members this year are giants Steve Kimock, George Porter Jr., Jackie Greene and Nicki Bluhm. Elsewhere, fans will recognize Johnny Stachela and Pedro Arevalo from Betts’ Palmetto Motel ensemble, as well as Jason Crosby of Phil Lesh & Friends, Ivan Neville of Dumpstaphunk, and Blue Note president Don Was of Bob Weir’s Wolf Bros. Rounding out the bill are Alex Orbison, Cody Dickinson, Jaime Wyatt, Johnny Kimock and Lamar Williams Jr.
Each of the Horshoe Family Band’s performances will be fit to a theme. On Friday, August 30, the group will present Skull & Peaches, music inspired by the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band. Night two will steer into Americana, celebrating the American songbook with a special tribute to the late Dickey Betts. For its final performance, the band will search for the Soul of the South, blending a wide variety of styles from gospel to Southern rock and covering greats like Ray Charles and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Offstage, fans will be constantly occupied with an exciting array of alternate activities, including the artisanal White Sage Market, a weekend-long healing retreat at Medicine Wheel Wellness and exceptional locally sourced food and beverages at the High N’ Wicked Gambler’s Lounge.
