Final Jeopardy Answer for October 4

The correct answer for Final Jeopardy on October 4, 2024 is “Who is Robinson Crusoe?”

The novel “Robinson Crusoe” by Daniel Defoe was published in 1719 and follows a castaway who spends more than twenty years on various tropical islands near Venezuela and Trinidad. As the clue hints, the titular character was inspired by a Scot, namely Alexander Selkirk, a privateer and Royal Navy officer who marooned on an island in the South Pacific Ocean for four years. The artifact the clue mentions is a small blue-tip navigational divider found by Japanese explorer Daisuke Takahashi in 2005.

His journey of survival was publicized after he returned home, which inspired the character of Robinson. A man wearing goatskins with bare shins and feet was drawn on the first page of the novel, making the comparison hard to miss. Más a Tierra island, which Selkirk was stranded on, was renamed to Robinson Crusoe Island in 1966 by Chilean president Eduardo Frei Montalva.

A NBC TV series called “Crusoe” launched in 2009, but it only had a single season.
